KICK THE SUGAR HABIT!!!! Start the year off with a resolve to decrease your sugar habit AND find healthier, alternative sweeteners that you can substitute when you need to. This BASICS class will begin with beverages and appetizers as we discuss some tips on how you can take small steps to decrease your dependency on sugar and how you can substitute alternative sweeteners in your cooking. Then we will head for the kitchen and cook some delicious treats that you will surely add to your everyday recipe file. Class will have 45 minutes of information followed by a 2 hour cooking class.

SOUPS & WINTER SALADS! Yummm! This is the time of year that the body needs warming meals to keep us healthy. There is nothing better than a nice grounding soup with lots of healthy ingredients to keep us going. We will also introduce some warming winter salads to complete your meal options. CONTINUE TO KICK THE SUGAR HABIT WITH A BACK TO BASICS APPROACH!….. COOKING WITH GRAINS AND GREENS. It takes adding in whole foods to your daily diet in order to help with changing any dietary habit. Whole foods are the source for balancing blood sugars, hormones, depression and a host of other ailments. Did you know that your diet can also help you kick the smoking and drinking habit????……. In this class we will begin with beverages and appetizers while we discuss some of the basics of what leafy greens and whole grains add to your body. Our cooking class will focus on how to integrate grains and greens into your diet for a healthier, more joyful you in 2012. Our recipes are always seasonal so we’ll focus on the heartier leafy greens like kale and collards. These pair well with grains like barley and quinoa and our recipes will be easy and delicious. Class goes until 8:30.

OPEN TABLE NIGHT!!! ADJUSTING YOUR PERSONAL EATING PLAN…… FOR SPRING…..Join us for a down-on-the- farm, seasonal dinner prepared by Healthy Living Kitchen. We’ll use the freshest ingredients available. Whether you have gone through our weight management program and need some periodic check in times, or you are just trying to stay on top of a healthy eating regimen, this 4 Season Personal Eating Plan is an easy way to help you stay accountable and on track and to connect with others who are trying to eat a healthy diet. While you enjoy your meal you will work on creating a personal eating plan that will carry you through the spring season and and right into summer. This is the time to prepare your body to rid yourself of winter’s excess and lighten up for summer. It’s a great time to consider a DETOX to help your body along. (see schedule of our Detox program). This plan will keep you on top of conscious eating patterns, and congruent with the bounty of each season. Eating whole foods with the seasons helps to keep you in tune to the vibrational changes that occur all around and helps keep you in touch with your nutritional needs through mindful body awareness. Dinner and guide will last 1 1/2 hours.

CONTINUING OUR BASICS SERIES WHILE YOU “KICK THE SUGAR” HABIT……. INTEGRATE BEANS AND PROTEIN INTO YOUR DIET. In this class we’ll begin with beverages and appetizers as we discuss how to sort through how much protein, carbohydrates and fat you need to create a balanced plate that works for satiation and weight control. We’ll talk about protein quality and sources. Then in the kitchen, we’ll focus on ways to cook with beans that make them more digestible, and show you how to add in versatile, delicious recipes. We’ll introduce you to some soy products that will add a delicious variety to your menu. Class ends at 8:30 pm

DETOX TIME!!!…..A Spring Detox is the time to give your body a rest from all the heavier foods of winter and to transition into the lighter, fresher foods that are available in the summer. Along with cleansing your liver and gallbladder, it’s also time to detoxify from negative, toxic emotions and anything else that is weighing heavily upon you. This naturally happens as you change your eating regime. The way you eat determines how you think and feel. Spring detox can also be a time to reset your metabolism and bring your body back to balance. It’s easy to wander away from the habits that keep us feeling energized and enthusiastic for living….. Join us for this 3 SESSION CLASS as we get ready for the warmer months to come…..Other classes are on March 28 and April 4. Each class goes until 7:30 pm with a LIGHT DINNER INCLUDED.

KNIFE SKILLS CLASS………Learning how to properly use a knife is an essential part of cooking. It makes cooking more efficient and much easier. When you have a nice sharp knife to use it is so much more fun and brings joy to slicing and dicing!…..In this class you will learn how to chop, slice, mince, and dice vegetables that will give you the tools to prepare all the basics in the kitchen. You’ll also learn how to cut up a chicken for easy use. We’ll talk about how to select your knives, sources to purchase and how to take care and sharpen them. With all the chopping you do during the class, a meal will be served using the ingredients. Class goes until 2:00pm.
